What is animal rights up to in 3rd quarter?

Animal Rights had a successful 2nd quarter. Working towards the goal of

educating ourselves and our peers, we made "Meet Your Meet" posters

highlighting the horrific treatment of farm animals. The posters line the

halls of the school. Lots of teachers and students have stopped to read

about the cruelty involved in the meat industry. We also created "Go Veg"

posters showing both the pain animals endure so that we can eat them and how

the best way to reduce cruelty is by adopting a vegetarian/vegan diet.

At the beginning of February, Animal Rights had a bake sale to raise money

for the animals. Funds will go to an animal welfare organization that will

be voted on this month.

During 3rd quarter will be having a Vegan Food Sale to raise more money for

the animals, an Animal Rights display featuring our cutest pets, and

performances about the lives animals lead during culture fest are just a few

of the cool things Animal Rights will be doing this quarter.

What is SIP up to in 3rd quarter?

SIP third quarter will be continuing to work with our Freshmen and Sophomores. We have several new additions to both grade levels. We will be observing our students in their classrooms this quarter as a way to better get a sense of what they are doing in the classroom and what assignments are coming up. In addition, each SIP student will begin meeting with Ms. Gross to discuss GPA and long-term academic planning.

What is Science Club up to in 3rd quarter?

This quarter is an ambitious and busy one for the Science Club. Planned activities include “Sweet Saturday” at the Garfield Conservatory, a special program that allows students to see and sample treats made with ingredients derived from tropical plants grown by the conservatory; a class at the Shedd Aquarium during which students will dissect a fish and a squid to learn the different anatomies of vertebrates and invertebrates; and probably the most anticipated activity, the upcoming ski trip.

The Science Club sold roses at the Homecoming dance to fundraise for thee upcoming activities.

Are you looking for a way to get involved?

One of the best things that you can do for your child is to become involved in his or her school. On February 27th, Northtown is hosting its annual Culture Fest. Culture Fest is an event where Northtown opens its doors to show the community how wonderfully diverse the study body is. The students put together presentations, whether it be singing, dancing, or reading a poem, to show their peers, parents, and community members. This has been a wonderful tradition at Northtown.

Culture Fest is also an opportunity for you to become involved at Northtown! If you are willing to help sell tickets, bring in food, or help with the various mini events throughout the day, we would love to have you! If you can't commit to being a volunteer, please at least stop by and see the wonders of Culture Fest 2010.

Culture Fest will be held February 27th in the gym from 1-4pm.
